Melbourne Favourite Wins Australia's Wine List of the Year Awards 2024
It’s time for custodians of Australia’s wine lists to present their handiwork for judging in the country’s most prestigious industry awards, Australia’s Wine List of the Year Awards. Presented by leading premium wine distributor Fine Wine Partners and highly respected wine magazine Gourmet Traveller WINE, the awards have recognised the skill, hard work and investment required to craft great lists for almost twenty years.
“Australia’s Wine List of the Year Awards reward the work of those who create wines lists and gives consumers a very useful guide to wine savvy venues – from quirky little bars, to gastro pubs, to clubs, all the way up to fine dining,” says Rob Hirst, Fine Wine Partners Chairman and former President of Wine Communicators of Australia.
The awards maintain their independence and integrity with a 28 strong judging panel chaired by award winning wine communicator Peter Forrestal. Judges include past wine list winners, wine writers, Masters of Wine and Master Sommeliers from Australia, UK, Europe, NZ and US, as well as some of Australia’s most respected print and digital wine consumer arbiters, commentators, communicators and journalists. This panel reviews the wine lists for many qualities, one of which is how well the list introduces to and guides the consumer through today’s world of wine – it’s ‘user friendliness’.
“Winners over the last three years have been incredibly diverse,” says Judy Sarris editor of Gourmet Traveller WINE. “In 2010 the top prize was won by the impressively large list of Rockpool Bar & Grill but consecutive years saw wins by smaller restaurants, including seaside venue, Pilu at Freshwater and country restaurant The Royal Mail in Dunkeld. We encourage everyone to enter as there are opportunities to shine in many different categories.”
Wine Australia will continue to promote local producers with their sponsorship of ‘The Best Representation of Australian Wine.’
Reviews of the winners will be published in the Aug/Sept 2013 issue of Gourmet Traveller WINE magazine.
